Pwll Penarth Yesterday

Spent a few hours out yesterday but very little out enjoying the sun. The river Skater was on the canal this is larger than a pond skater and you can see the male piggybacking on the female which he can do for weeks.

A Banded Snail, I guess it beats the common garden snail.

A Pill Millipede, had not seen one of these before but then had never really looked.

Lots of Peacock Butterflies there too,

Llanymynych Rocks

A quick trip to Llanymynych was worth the effort today, Lots of  Peacock and Comma Butterflies about. Brimstone was about but no photo's might try again tomorrow.

A 7 Spot Ladybird, Seem to be lots of these about but this was the best I could manage.

With a bit of patience you can see lots of Common Lizard about and they don't mind having a picture taken

Peacock Butterfly

Unfortunately it didnt want to stay around for me to take a decent photo.

Squirrel at Coed-y-dinas

Noticed this Squirrel chewing on fresh buds at Coed-y-dinas. No wonder there is going to be a cull at Llanidloes I believe, it was really tucking in and wasting many of the leaves.

Toad spawn in the canal

Well looks like the result of all that activity last week has produced something!!

Hard to see but there is a toad in there

Brimstone

Bit of a grab shot of a Brimstone Butterfly taken at Llanymynych Rocks

Butterflies, Voles and Spawn

Still seeing lots of butterflies about but they are a little busy trying to mate to pose for photo's.
Bank Voles showing nicely at Coed y Dinas but the grass is starting to get a bit long so sighting will go down i think.
Frogspawn developing well think by next weekend I will be seeing Tadpoles no sign of any Toad spawn even though I'm seeing lots of Toads.

Toad or Frog?

I am unsure if I saw a lot of toads or frogs mating and swimming about in the canal today.  Can anyone tell from these photos which they are please?

Butterflies

With the warm weather on Sunday I saw 5 butterflies on the Pwll Penarth reserve, Since then I have seen a Butterfly everyday in many different places has anybody else noticed this?

My first bee.

My `first` bee, he/she is a bit old now but I know he was resident at Moat Farm in Manafon so I guess the family will be out this summer.

Toads at Pwll Penarth

Lots of Toads at Pwll Penarth today I counted 30 some were very vocal, Lots of people thought they were Frogs. Left Pwll Penarth for a walk down the river in Newtown where i went to check on the frogs i saw the other week, There must  be over 100 clumps of frog spawn now and when i left the frogs were calling to each other.

Damselflies of montgomeryshire

Not brilliant shots but taken at Lake Vyrnwy. First is probably a Large Red and second a White-legged? This blog is a good way to brush up on our species Phil. Sorry that photos are last years.

DRAGONFLIES

New photos to make it easier for identification. They are either Migrant Hawkers or Common Hawkers, looked in guide book but still cannot tell!

Lazy Hare

Saw this hare along the canal at Pool Quay this morning.  He/she didnt want to onblige me by moving!  I went back 3 hours later and still sat there.  How utterly lazy!!

Bank Vole LCyD

Taken on Friday at Coed y Dinas, this photo shows the tail which helps tell us if its a Bank Vole or a Field Vole, Thanks to the Montgomeryshire wildlife Trust for confirming this.

Lots of Frogs

Went for a walk down the river in the afternoon and after seeing the fox was nice to see some new life even if its in early stages, about 15 pairs were seen in this pool.

Fox at Pwll Penarth

The fox was in the field opposite the reserve entrance sadly it was finding it hard to move and when i left it was breathing very slowly, The man who lives next to the field had approached it but it had just growled and made no attempt to run away.
